Thursday 1/18 Call to Action

Thursday 1/18

1. The Vice President for Health Policy and senior fellow for Economic Policy at the Center for American Progress, Topher Spiro, had this to say about CHIP. “This funding bill does not fund community health centers or nurse home visits for mothers, and it only extends the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) for six years. There is no reason not to do a 10-year CHIP extension, which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates would actually save money. After enacting $1.5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich and corporations, this bill adds another $31 billion in tax cuts for health care corporations. But most importantly, this bill takes CHIP hostage in order to leave Dreamers out in the cold. After delaying CHIP for several months, the congressional majority is now using CHIP as a bargaining chip, when they could easily pass CHIP separately. No one should pit CHIP against Dreamers in a cynical, partisan political game.” Continue to call your MoC about passing funding for CHIP and a clean Dream Act to save the DACA program.

2. Thomas Farr is another judicial nominee that is worrisome. Thomas Farr is nominated to serve on the Eastern District of North Carolina. His racist history is dangerous for African Americans that need their rights protected under federal law. Call your Senators and tell the to vote no on Farr.

3. Keep that blue wave coming! I'm so proud of Wisconsin! Seeing Paul Ryan and Scott Walker nervous about what is happening is the icing on the cake.
4. Get Out The Vote!
Remember there is a special election taking place on Monday, February 12th. State Senate seat 54 and state House seat 23B are up for grabs depending on if we can get voters to the polls. You can help, even if you don’t live in these districts. Visit the candidates’ web or Facebook pages for more information on volunteering.
