2. Neonicotinoid pesticide use is decimating our country’s pollinator and bird populations. Do you like to eat food? 3. EPA Chief, Scott Pruitt Need to Go!
Ethics violations against Scott Pruitt are piling up. During his short tenure as head of the EPA, Pruitt has given huge raises to his coworkers (some of which didn’t even bother to show up to work!), cost taxpayers millions of dollars in extra security and fancy travel, and trampled on regulations that protect our planet. He is a bad hombre! It is time for Pruitt to step down from his wrecking ball and leave the EPA.

The Senate re-opens today (Monday) and the House re-opens tomorrow (Tuesday) after two weeks of recess.

1. On Trump's announcement that he would pull troops out of Syria "very soon," and possibly without adhering to a timeline, Syrian president Bashar al-Assad may have again used chemical weapons against his own people.  One way to help is to give a bit of money to aid groups.

1. Bankrolling Anti-Muslim Propaganda
Reports have surfaced that Secure America Now, a conservative nonprofit group that disseminated anti-Muslim propaganda ads on social media, was bankrolled by rich investors including billionaire Robert Mercer, former Best Buy CEO, Brad Anderson, and Best Buy founder, Richard Schultz. (Best Buy is a Minnesota company.) Brad Anderson is also on the board of Minnesota Public Radio (MRP), General Mills, Carlson, and Mayo Clinics.
In 2016, Secure America Now (SAN https://www.secureamericanow.org/) worked with Facebook and Google to aim inflammatory messages at swing-state voters who were likely to agree with the content.
In an interview on MPR, Brand Anderson admitted that he donated the money to SAN, but argued that he didn’t know about the content of the videos. Being that SAN’s singular mission is to spread hate-filled propaganda, that seems like a flimsy excuse.

Today, let’s do the same. Minnesota is better than this. We cannot tolerate anti-Muslim sentiment to become part of the framework of Minnesota’s businesses. Call Best Buy and let them know you will not support a company that represents hate filled propaganda, Contact MPR, General Mills, Carlson, and Mayo Clinics and tell them to remove Brand Anderson from their boards.

2. Interior Department Nomination
Susan Combs, from Texas, has been nominated to become acting secretary for fish, wildlife and parks. Combs vehemently objects to the Endangered Species Act so this nomination is on par with an administration that seems to choose the worst person for the job.
Combs has strong ties to the oil industry and has a history of battling the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service when it attempted to enforce the Endangered Species Act. Combs has worked to remove protections for many of Texas’ endangered animals.
This nomination is a big NO. Our own Senator Tina Smith is on the Committee of Energy and Natural Resources. Let’s call her today and encourage her to fight the nomination of Susan Combs.

1. Tariffs
In response to Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on China’s goods, China has decided they will impose tariffs on American goods. Exports are extremely important to Minnesota, and China is our top export for soybeans. It is unclear yet when these tariffs will be in effect, but now is the time to pressure our representatives to push back against Trump’s decision.
  • Minnesota is the fourth largest exporting state in the U.S.
  • Minnesota’s top exporting commodities are soybeans, corn, pork, and soybean meal

When it comes to student support services, Minnesota spends less than half of the national average. As the saying goes, it takes a village. With all the challenges that students face today a point person in a support staff role can make all the difference in the world. “Early identification, prevention and intervention efforts that incorporate a multitiered system of supports and services have proved to be most effective. A multitiered system includes school-employed mental health providers such as licensed school social workers, school counselors, school psychologists and school nurses. Unfortunately, Minnesota lags far behind other states in providing students with adequate access to these professionals. 1. Rebecca Dallet’s Victory in Wisconsin
Let’s start the day off with some happy news. Yesterday, Rebecca Dallet was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court by a 10 point margin. Could this be another sign of big changes coming in November? Only if we commit ourselves to getting out the vote. Wisconsin’s governor, Scott Walker is feeling the heat. 2. Robert Mueller’s Investigation
Last night on the Rachel Maddow Show, there was some encouraging news about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. We have all been on pins and needles worrying about whether Trump would fire Mueller, creating a constitutional crisis. It seems that Mueller has prepared for that scenario.
Charges brought against Paul Manafort weren’t just brought by Mueller’s office alone. Charges were also signed off on by the National Security Division and the Tax Division on the justice department. This means that if the Trump administration were to prevent Mueller from doing his job, the investigation would persist.

1. Sinclair Broadcasting Group
Sinclair Broadcasting Group (SBG) is a notoriously biased, conservative broadcasting company that forces their member TV stations to spin news in favor of Trump and air clips from controversial talking heads like Sebastian Gorka and Boris Epshteyn. (Think Fox News at the local level.) SBG is already the largest owner of television stations owning 38% of them across the United States, the limit allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). SBG is looking to Ajit Pai, chairman of the FCC, to change this rule so that they can purchase Tribune Media. If the rule is changed, SBG will own 70% of television stations across the country! Replacing the truth with propaganda will hurt America and democracy.

2. 3M Water Settlement Meeting Tonight
In February, Attorney General Lori Swanson announced a $850 million settlement in Minnesota’s lawsuit against the company 3M over water contamination by perfluorochemicals (PFCs) in eastern Twin Cities suburbs. The money will be used to fund drinking water and water sustainability projects for the areas affected by the contamination.

If you are one of the many affected by this, you can attend the 3M settlement public meeting tonight in Cottage Grove. It will be from 6-8 pm at Park High School (8040 80th Street South)

1. Climate Change Denier and EPA Secretary Scott Pruitt has been getting a cheap rental from an Energy Lobbyist.  Let's call our senators and ask that they look into this deal.  Even Chris Christie says, "It's hard to see how you survive this one."
