Monday November 5 Call to Action

I drove in to work today, and the Dean Phillips crowd was out with signs on the foot bridge across Highway 62 in Edina.  One day left!

There's still stuff to do.  Check out for last-minute options.
https://events.mobilizeamerica.io/dfl/

There are a handful of news items, but let's just focus today on getting ourselves and all our Democratic friends to the polls by 9pm tomorrow!

The Secretary of State’s website has all the information you need to get your vote on. You can apply for an absentee ballot, figure out where to vote and even get a sample ballot so you can do your research ahead of time. https://www.sos.state.mn.us/elections-voting/
Candidates cannot win without help from us. Commit today to doing your part.
Each candidate on the November ballot has a website where you can sign up to volunteer. Every person can do at least one thing per week to help these candidates win.

Young people say they plan to vote at near-historic highs
According to a poll from the Harvard University Institute of Politics, a high number of young voters could turn out in the 2018 midterm elections. The poll showed that 40 percent of 18-to 29-year olds said they will “definitely” vote in the 2018 midterm elections. This is a substantial increase from previous years. Oh Lordy, let’s hope so! https://www.vox.com/…/young-people-vote-harvard-poll-2018-m…
Young people nationwide are going to walk out of class on November 6th and head to the polls to vote en mass. We can promote and support this effort by using the hashtag #WalkOutToVote in our social media posts and encouraging our friends and family members to spread the word!https://walkouttovote.org
Pentagon: Border Migrants Aren’t A Threat
A document leaked from the Pentagon reveals that the military does not consider the migrants heading to the southern border to seek asylum a threat (no duh). What the military is concerned about are the throngs of armed, unregulated militia inspired by Trump and the GOP’s never-ending scaremongering of immigrants. New Information about Watergate Scandal
According to new documents that were released by the National Archives this week, Nixon didn't resign for the good of the country or to avoid impeachment. He resigned because he was about to be indicted. I am guessing the timing of the release of this information was not a coincidence. Thursday 11/1 Call to Action

Thursday 11/1

It’s November. Have you voted?!

1. Troops sent to the border.
Trump is using fear to stir up his base about dangerous migrants walking thousands of miles to bring violence, drugs, and disease into the U.S. Since we will not let him build a wall, he is sending troops to the border, anywhere between 5,000 to 15,000. What will this cost?
“While the Defense Department has yet to reveal costs associated with deploying thousands of U.S. troops to the southwest border, a Pentagon official familiar with the details of the deployment told Newsweek that initial values could start within the $50 million range.
The estimated financial figure surged when factoring in the movement of equipment and associated logistical support combined with the allocation of funds for U.S. troops on temporary duty, the source said.”
This is such a waste of our resources and our armed forces.

2. The most diverse candidates to run in U.S. history.
272 of 964 candidates are women
215 are black, Hispanic, Asian, Native American or multiracial
26 are identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender

3.Youth activists getting ready to vote
““On November 6th, the voice of young people in this country will be heard loud and clear when we cast our ballots together,” Hogg said in a statement. “You will hear us marching to the polls, and you will see the impact we have when we cast our ballots. And we’ll make this impact because we’re not afraid to work together to make it happen."”

4. Enroll or renew healthcare plans
Today enrollment opens for 2019 healthcare plans. Approximately 80% of people who go to Healthcare.gov will get coverage for $75 or less. Vote for candidates who protect your healthcare.

Now let’s get to work. Here’s what you can do to get Democrats a win at the polls next Tuesday in order of importance.

Wednesday 10/31 Call to Action

Wednesday
There is so much happening in the news right now but don’t let that distract you. Your call to action through November 6th is to get people to vote for DFL candidates.
In North Dakota, Native Americans Try to Turn an ID Law to Their Advantage
Republicans in North Dakota are suppressing the vote of thousands Native Americans. This has only made these North Dakota tribes more determined to do so. Read about what’s going on in our neighbor state. https://www.nytimes.com/…/polit…/north-dakota-voter-id.html…
Pete Staubers Emails Released
St. Louis County Commissioner Pete Stauber is a GOP running for Congress in Minnesota’s 8th district against Joe Radinovich. Reports are saying that Stauber used his official county email account to request opposition research from the Republican National Congressional Committee as he geared up his campaign for the U.S. House seat from northeastern Minnesota. St. Louis County policy prohibits elected officials from using county resources on their campaigns. Yesterday, the Minnesota DFL won a lawsuit to have those emails released. Tueaday 10/30 Call to Action

Tuesday
One week left! Pour yourself a big bowl of Get-Out-The-Vote today and get to work. Remember when Afton’s own Jessie Diggins won gold in cross country skiing at the winter Olympics? Remember how hard she pushed herself because the race was so close? I want you to keep that in your mind over the next seven days. Be like Jessie Diggins. Here’s a clip to remind you of how awesome she is. https://youtu.be/fgJ1OyLoZog
From Schooley on Twitter: Eventually we will look back and either say, “The corruption was so blatant how did anybody think he’d get away with it?” or “The corruption was so blatant how did he get away with it?” Kind of depends on next Tuesday.
