I haven't written one of these for awhile, since we're a bit between elections.

But today, I think our representatives and senators could use a bit of encouragement.  And while the odds of removal might be low, a quick note to our elected officials might streamline the process a bit.

Monday 10/21 Call to Action

I am going to contact my Senators and Representatives today to ask that they continue to investigate the president and his abuse of office.  It's critical as many people as possible call.  I don't have a Republican Congress-person, but I hope you will call if you have one.

I'm not interested in getting Republicans to flip from vocally supporting the president to vocally opposing him; the goal is to move each member of Congress a bit toward impeachment -- to get Trump's defenders to stop defending him, to get those who don't say much to take a symbolic vote, to get those who do criticize him to vote for impeachment, etc.

So proud of all of you who were able to show up and peacefully protest Trump’s visit and hate rally yesterday. Yesterday was a great day for democracy and standing up to hate. 

Last night at Trump’s rally he spent over a hundred minutes railing against his critics, attacking Somali refugees, showing how unfit he is to serve this country, and vowing to win and flip Minnesota to red in 2020. He only lost this state by 1.5% in 2016 and spent $30-$40k. Tens of millions of dollars are moving into this state to try and flip it. And the Minnesota DFL doesn’t take money from foreign interests! We need to raise the alarm and organize hard for the 2020 elections.

Everyday more and more corruption is coming to light about Trump’s dealings with Ukraine and Russia. Our representatives need to continue to hear that we support this impeachment inquiry. Trump only serves himself, not this country.

It would be great if Republicans would start defending the Constitution and support the impeachment inquiry. Trump is committing impeachable offenses on live tv asking one of America’s biggest geopolitical rivals to investigate one of his political opponents. About five years ago, China hacked and stole government security clearance files containing intimate details of tens of millions of public officials and private sector workers in the U.S. This is not ok. The pressure is on Congress to do something about it.

We now know that Trump solicited Ukraine’s help in gathering opposition research on VP Joe Biden. Just as impeachment hearings were underway, the House went on a two-week recess. Sigh. We cannot let the momentum of this investigation die. Let’s keep tabs on our members of Congress and remind them to keep working on uncovering crimes even though they are away from Washington DC.

After denying it on television on September 22nd, reports have surfaced that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was indeed on Trump’s infamous phone call with Ukraine. Grr. The rot goes deep in this administration! So far, Pompeo has rejected House Democrats’ demands to allow State Department employees to testify. Some State employees are going against Pompeo. I expect after today’s revelation about the phone call, Pompeo will be subpoenaed as well.
The State Department’s Inspector General has requested an urgent meeting with key congressional committees on Ukraine today. Keep your eye on the news to see what that’s all about.

Audio has leaked from a meeting at Facebook where CEO Mark Zuckerberg has called Senator Elizabeth Warren a threat to the company. Warren has argued that Facebook has become too big and powerful and faces little to no competition or accountability. Given the current circumstances, now more than ever we need to focus on keeping the House, flip the Senate, and win the presidency in 2020. Could you imagine how things would be right now if we hadn’t won the House in 2018? We must be vigilant in protecting the 2020 election. We cannot hold hope that Trump will resign or go out without a fight, so we must be ready with action.

It clearly shows that Trump sees himself as a dictator, not an elected POTUS who is answerable to the people, when he mentions the penalty of spies and people convicted of treason received in the old days when discussing the whistleblower. This is appalling conduct from anyone, and the whistleblower needs to be protected.

“Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler disbanded the Particulate Matter Review Panel, part of the Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee, in October 2018. 

The 20-member review panel was composed of some of the nation’s top scientists, who were tasked with reviewing how soot and other microscopic air pollutants impact human health. The panel helped the EPA determine what level of air pollution is safe to breathe. 

Now the scientists who once served on the panel will meet on Oct. 10, the anniversary of the day it was disbanded.”

Well it finally happened. Speaker Pelosi has called for an impeachment inquiry on Trump. While he has committed plenty of impeachable offenses in the past, blackmailing Ukraine seems to be what pushed the House into official action. McConnell’s Election Security Bill: A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing?
After stonewalling election security bills from the House, Senate Majority Leader Mitch (MoscowMitch) McConnell has agreed to add $250 million to be used by the federal government and states for election security in a way that McConnell feels in appropriate. Ahh, there’s the catch. McConnell would enable corrupt officials to buy whatever hackable, unauditable voting machines they want. We need traceable votes and back-up paper ballots.

Today, please call your Senators, as well as Sens. Schumer, Coons, and Leahy, and tell them that McConnell’s election security funding does not protect voters. They must address this issue now.

The Supreme Court has delivered a devastating blow to the US asylum system.

Yesterday the EPA repealed an Obama-era water protection that previously curbed the use of polluting chemicals near wetlands, streams and other bodies of water.
