Friday 4/12 Call to Action

Friday 4/12

Trump is using the powerless, including children, as pawns in political payback. Comprehensive immigration reform could be passed, but instead the White House proposed releasing immigrant detainees in sanctuary cities targeting political foes.
White House officials “tried to pressure U.S. immigration authorities to release detainees onto the streets of ‘sanctuary cities’ to retaliate against President Trump’s political adversaries, according to Department of Homeland Security officials and email messages reviewed by The Washington Post.””
“The extent of this administration’s cynicism and cruelty cannot be overstated,” Speaker Pelosi spokeswoman Ashley Etienne told the Post. “Using human beings — including little children — as pawns in their warped game to perpetuate fear and demonize immigrants is despicable.””

Representative Ilhan Omar came under fire again yesterday when on the cover of Rupert Murdoch’s New York Post, which featured the Twin Towers burning in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Posts like this are inciting violence against progressives. Omar was discussing how Muslims are often unfairly implicated in the actions of terrorists. We need to continue calling out uncalled for rhetoric.

As of today, Trump’s new policy on transgender military service effectively bans transgender people from joining the military. This is absurd. “It effectively bans transgender people from joining the military. The more than 14,000 already serving will be allowed to do so openly, so long as they have that formal diagnosis of gender dysphoria filed by the deadline. If not, they must serve under the gender assigned them at birth - or leave the armed forces.” We have so many great people in this country who want to serve, and it shouldn’t matter what gender they identify with, or where they are in their life with wanting to share how they identify their gender.

Here’s what’s happening in the MN State Legislature today.
