Friday 6/28 Call to Action

Friday 6/28

At the G20 summit Trump signaled he would welcome Russia’s help in 2020. Putin has attacked our democracy and national security, not just our elections. Seeing Trump joke with Putin shows where his loyalties lie.
"Don't meddle in the election, president," Trump said in a joking manner to Putin as cameras clicked and reporters shouted questions. Wagging a finger at the Russian president, Trump repeated, "don't meddle in the election."

Yesterday the House passed the election security bill that would require paper ballots, post-election audits, and give money to states to update election equipment. Now it is off to the Senate. It would be nice if election security was bipartisan, especially in the wake of how Trump has shown where his loyalties lie at the G20.
On Tuesday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) attempted to force a vote to allow the Senate to consider her Election Security Act, but was blocked by Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.). This legislation would require backup paper ballots and provide $1 billion in election security grants for states to improve election security issues.”

There has been a lot of turmoil over the emergency border aid package. Here is why a leading immigrant rights coalition opposed the bill, saying it did more harm than good.

Glencore, a Swiss mining giant is now the majority shareholder of PolyMet. “"Glencore’s worldwide record of environmental disasters, violations of human rights and disregard for workers and labor rights speaks for itself ... The terrible record of Glencore and its leaders should concern every Minnesotan," Hoffman said.”
