Friday 7/26 Call to Action

Friday 7/26

Yesterday evening the House left for their six week summer recess. Let this be be six weeks of them constantly hearing from their constituents.

Since there are certain Senators who do not want to do their job, it’s time for the American people to start raising roucous. If McConnell doesn’t want to bring a bill to the floor that deals with cyber warfare from Russia, then he and his GOP colleagues are aiding and abetting our adversary. We will not put up with this anymore.
The Senate Intelligence Committee concluded Thursday that election systems in all 50 states were targeted by Russia in 2016, an effort more far-reaching than previously acknowledged and one largely undetected by the states and federal officials at the time.”
Mr. McConnell has held fast to his position despite withering criticism from Democrats, and agitation from some in his party who want the Senate to move more modest, bipartisan legislation. The Democratic proposal, already passed by the House, would have given the states hundreds of millions of dollars in grants, mandated the use of backup paper ballots and required risk-limiting postelection audits.”

These camps need to be shutdown.
Active-duty U.S. troops are now stationed inside the Border Patrol's holding facility in Donna, Texas, and monitoring migrant adults and children from just a few feet away, according to two current and two former defense officials, a move a congressman says comes close to violating a 140-year-old federal law.”
Active-duty troops are barred from performing law enforcement functions inside the U.S. by the Posse Comitatus Act, a federal law enacted in 1878 that prohibits the government from using military forces to act as a police force within U.S. borders.”

There are a growing number of legislators calling to suspend all Polymet permits, while there are those who say Polymet followed the law in obtaining permits. All concerns and questions need to be addressed about the permitting process. There is too much at stake with the environment to just forge ahead, and we deserve the truth.
Opponents of the mining project argue the project could send tainted runoff into the St. Louis River watershed and Lake Superior. Supporters, meanwhile, say the project would bring much-needed jobs to the region.”

Sen. John Marty, the Roseville Democrat leading the effort, said lawmakers were also motivated by Glencore’s recent purchase of PolyMet Mining Corp. and the catastrophic failure earlier in the year of an iron ore mine tailings dam in Brazil, a facility with a similar design to the tailings dam PolyMet would use.”

Twin Metals, a Minnesota company owned by Chilean mining giant Antofagasta Minerals, is closing in on building its new copper mine. The location: Ely, right next to Minnesota’s treasured stretch of silent lakes and untouched wilderness, the Boundary Waters.”
