Thursday 5/14 Call to Action

Thursday 5/14

We are living through historic times and not in a good way. There is so much badness happening and yet we won’t make a difference unless we use the power of our vote in November.
It is crucial we get the masses out to vote for better leaders and here are some reasons why:

1. Judicial nominations
Something that many of us have felt is hazardous under this administration is the record setting pace federal courts are being stacked with ultra-conservative judges. So far there has been forty two judicial nominees, Justice Gorsuch included, twenty one circuit court judges, and twenty district court judges.
“We have been aggressively working behind the scenes to ensure that qualified constitutionally conservative judges are nominated and confirmed. We are happy to report that since our last update, the U.S. Senate has nearly doubled the number of federal appellate judicial nominees confirmed since the beginning of this Administration.”
“One of the most important aspects of presidential power is the ability to nominate federal judges – judges who will determine how the Constitution is interpreted for decades to come.”
This is a very dangerous agenda.

2. The Census
Gerrymandering has been on the forefront for what many activists are targeting. Republicans are using the census as a tool to distort our elections.
“Using a citizenship question to prevent noncitizens from counting toward representation would turn one of the most important constitutional acts—the gathering of census data every 10 years—into a political weapon. The census already routinely undercounts immigrant populations, depriving their cities and states of political and economic resources. Excluding them from representation altogether would drastically curb the influence of minority populations at a time of rapid demographic change.”

3. Immigrant children
This is absolutely horrific. It’s hard for me to believe that I can go about my daily life when there are families being ripped apart because this administration has a “zero tolerance” for illegal immigration. This is what fascism looks like.

Here’s a repost from Wednesday as there is so much important information on how to get involved.

The party Conventions have kicked off the election season. This is what we’ve all been waiting for -- to vote the right people into power!! Come engage with the biggest citizen activist groups in the Metro Area and hear how they working to get Progressive candidates elected at federal and especially the state level. There will be a Q&A with representatives from St Croix Valley Women’s Alliance, Indivisible North Metro, CD2 Action, and Indivisible MN03.
Turnout in the TC metro is definitely important, especially the state-wide races, but the flippable suburban districts are arguably where this November will be won or lost. If you are in a solid blue district, come find out how you can help drive the vote in the purple and red districts!
There are a myriad of ways to help local candidates. Phone banking and door knocking are the obvious ones. But if the thought of talking to strangers shivers your timbers, there are other options as well. Consider donating money, food, supplies, or your expertise to a campaign. Write postcards to voters. March in parades. Be part of a crew that holds signs on highway overpasses. In the next few weeks, I will present opportunities to do all of these things. Be sure to sign up and be part of the blue wave that coming in November.
This handy article lists all the Minnesota candidates running for a House seat in November. Adopt one (or two, or more) and commit yourself to creating a wave of successful campaigns. Check it out:

We can check the group out, then, if we like it, join here:
