Friday 1/19 Call to Action

Friday
1. Today marks the final day for Congress to hash out the short-term spending bill that will keep the lights on in government for one more month. As the hours go by a deal seems less and less likely.
Nobody wants a government shutdown, but Democrats must stay strong to ensure that Dreamers are protected. Remember, they worked on a bipartisan bill with Republicans that Trump rejected. (The infamous s***hole incident -https://www.vox.com/…/…/immigration-congress-bill-daca-trump) If Democrats don’t hold out now, they will lose any leverage they have.
Today, call your members of Congress. Let them know that we expect the following:
*A fair solution for Dreamers
*Funding for CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program)
*Funding for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) -a program that provides quality healthcare to people in primarily rural areas.
*Relief for Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and California.
2. Earlier this month, a panel of judges decided that the congressional districts drawn in North Carolina discriminated against voters who favored non-Republican candidates. The courts gave the North Carolina General Assembly two weeks to redraw the districts in a non-partisan manner. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court just agreed to freeze the lower court’s opinion until further notice. Now, North Carolina’s gerrymandered districts will most likely not be redrawn in time for the 2018 midterm elections.
3. The transcript of Fusion GPS’s testimony to the House Intelligence Committee on the Trump dossier has been released. (Remember, Senator Feinstein released the Senate version earlier this month.) Check it out here:https://www.cnbc.com/…/trump-dossier-full-transcript-of-fus…
4. Get Out The Vote!
Don’t forget that Minnesota’s precinct caucuses take place on Tuesday, February 6th. Make plans now to attend. Find out the location of yours here:

Remember there is a special election taking place on Monday, February 12th. State Senate seat 54 and state House seat 23B are up for grabs depending on if we can get voters to the polls. You can help, even if you don’t live in these districts. Visit the candidates’ web or Facebook pages for more information on volunteering.
