Thursday 11/11 Call to Action

Thursday 11/11

1. David Stras
Today the Senate Judiciary Committee is voting on the ultra-right wing conservative nominee,  David Stras, for a judgeship on the federal appeals court that covers MN. Previously Senator Franken had used his “blue slip” for Stras. Now that this committee is down a Democrat the Republicans will be trying to ram through these controversial nominees. Call our Senators and tell them to vote NO on Stras. Need a calling script? Here you go.

2. Michelle Fischbach
Not only does this warrant a call to our local representatives, but this would also make great letters to the editors. Senator Fischbach believes she can hold both positions as “acting lieutenant governor” and Senator. As constituents, don’t we ideally want a Lieutenant Governor and a Senator who both can do their jobs full time? Thanks to P. D. the past few days for keeping us apprised on this topic and also providing his expertise on the legality of all of this.

3. CHIP
Andy Slavitt has shared new information on CHIP: CBO now says if Congress extends CHIP for 10 years instead of 5, it will not cost the government anything. It will save $6 billion and keep 9 million low income kids covered. Congress decides in 8 days. Congress needs to fund chip now.

4.  Get Out The Vote
Consider volunteering for Melissa Wagner or Karla Bigham. Remember, the best way to end this madness is to change our leadership.

Karla Bigham is running for State Senate in District 54
