Thursday 3/1 Call to Action

Thursday 3/1

Welcome to March!

Gun Safety Legislation in Minnesota Today! (Borrowed from yesterday, thanks KMP)

The two bills that will be presented today are the following:
HF1669: This bill calls for universal background checks for private gun sales https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/text.php…
HF 1605: This bill will give police or family members more power to petition courts to issue restraining orders that would prevent a person from possessing a gun for a period of time.https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/text.php…
Make plans to attend the hearings. March 1st, 10:15 am, Room 10 State Office Building. Mom’s Demand Action is planning an event. Get more information here: https://www.facebook.com/events/197371537520386/

Contact your representative early today (especially if they are on the committee) and encourage them to support these bills. You can also send an email. Put the bill in the subject line of your email and it will become part of the public record for the bill.

Special counsel

The Special Counsel investigation seems to be closing in on the White House and Trump is tweeting attacks against the Attorney General and the Inspector General. Now would be a good time to remind our Representatives that we want legislation passed that would protect Mueller.
Not only is Trump’s attack on the IG dangerous, as he’s once again politicizing an institution whose independence is crucial to its work, but it’s also deeply misleading.”
Did you see Sessions dined with Rosenstein last night?

And if you haven’t already signed up for this in case Trump does fire Mueller:

Healthcare (from Countable)
The healthcare fight continues, though most in Congress have moved on. A study published Monday projected that premiums on the Obamacare exchanges will go up 18 percent in 2019 as a result of changes to the law initiated by Republicans. Meanwhile, 20 conservative states have filed suit to rescind the law completely. They say the law is no longer constitutional since the repeal of the individual mandate. If premiums go up as predicted, perhaps Americans won't care if the court rules in their favor.
Check out what United States of Care is doing with Healthcare Over Politics in the weeks and months to come.
*Every American should have an affordable regular source of health care for themselves and their families.
*All Americans should be protected from devastation due to illness or injury.
*Policies to achieve these aims must be economically responsible and win the political support needed to ensure long term stability.
