Tuesday 3/6 Call to Action

.DACA
Six months ago, Trump decided to place an endpoint for protections of undocumented immigrants (DACA’s Dreamers) brought to the United States as children. That endpoint was yesterday, March 5th. What has happened in Congress since September is a series of disappointing punts and failed compromises-some sabotaged by the president himself. The inability of our elected officials to legislate is beyond frustrating.
Last month, the Supreme Court gave Dreamers a reprieve from deportation by refusing to hear their case. Now Congress has until the fall to figure out a solution.

Yesterday, a federal judge in Maryland struck down a challenge to Trump’s decision to end protection for Dreamers. https://www.politico.com/…/dreamers-daca-maryland-judge-tru…
This does not mean that Congress should leave approximately 700,000 Dreamers in limbo. Now is the time for them to work out a solution.
The most recent spending continuing resolution will expire on March 23rd. At that time, Congress is expected to pass an omnibus spending bill to fund the government. Let’s continue to call our representative and senators and remind them that Dreamers deserve a solution in the omnibus bill.

Starting today through March 8th, use social media (Facebook and Twitter) to contact your members of Congress. Make sure DACA stays on their minds.
On March 7th, contact the gubernatorial candidates and ask them to make a public statement of how they will help support Dreamers.

2. Environmental Report Cards for Local Legislators
Continuing yesterday’s report about Congress’ upcoming votes that affect our environment, it is important to point out that Representatives Emmer, Lewis, Paulsen and Peterson receive poor marks when it comes to the environment. Reps. Ellison, McCollum, and Walz and Senator Klobuchar are at the top of their class. Read this article and share your thoughts with your members of Congress.
