Wednesday 11/8 Call to Action

Wednesday
Does anyone else feel invigorated and ready to go today? Last night’s election victories were the boost I needed. We are making a difference. Change is happening folks!
1. Tax Bill
I am going to keep mentioning it. Keep making noise. There is a lot of shifting and changing going on in Congress to get the tax bill to work. The Senate is due to release their tax proposal on Thursday. The House hopes to approve their version of the bill on Thursday and vote for it some time next week. After yesterday’s election smack down, I am sure tensions in Congress are high. Let’s keep it there by calling, tweeting, emailing, etc.

2. Gun Safety
Enough already. Our members of Congress need to take steps to curb gun violence and protect their constituents. A certain Minnesota congressman had a telephone “town hall” last night. His response to a question on gun violence was that he could not wave a magic wand and make it go away. He compared gun control to Prohibition. That attitude is just not acceptable! Let’s contact our members of Congress today and demand the following:
1. Allow the Centers for Disease Control to research gun violence and how it affects public health https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/gun-violence-research-ha…/…
2. Improve mental health services for Americans
3. Expand background checks for gun purchasers and improve gun laws https://www.nytimes.com/…/opi…/how-to-reduce-shootings.html…
4. Vote no on the Conceal Carry Reciprocity Act, HR 38 (Reps. Emmer, Lewis and Peterson (!) have cosponsored this bill) https://www.countable.us/…/hr38-115-concealed-carry-recipro…

3. Obamacare
A record number of people have signed up for the Affordable Care Act so far. Good news! Keep spreading the word. http://thehill.com/…/359011-obamacare-signups-surge-in-earl…
4. Make Change
Are you feeling fired up? Be a part of the change. Many cities are looking for volunteers for city commissions and task forces. Check out your city’s website and see if there is an opportunity for you to make positive change in your community.
