Thursday, 9/21 Call To Action

Thursday, 9/21 Call To Action

1. Graham-Cassidy Healthcare bill. We are still calling about this! It is said to be the most radical bill yet. This bill takes money from states that did a good job of getting people covered under the ACA and gives that money to states that did not. It cuts Medicaid expansion for lower income enrollees.  Under this repeal 32 million people would lose coverage. This bill gets rid of the individual mandate to purchase coverage. This is a disaster and we have to continue to be loud about it!

2. Iran Nuclear Deal. “The accord, reached in 2015, required Iran to curb its nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international sanctions. Under United States law, Mr. Trump has until Oct. 15 to certify whether Iran is complying and the deal remains vital to America’s national security. While he has done so twice since taking office, he has signaled that he will refuse to do so again. That by itself would not abrogate the deal, but would give Congress 60 days to reimpose sanctions on Iran, an action that would mean an end to the agreement, at least for the United States. Mr. Trump may see decertification, or the threat of it, as leverage to press Iran and the other powers to restart talks. He could offer to certify for another 90 days if other parties agreed to explore new negotiations.” Rolling back sanctions has been a relief to the Iranian economy and it’s people. This deal is accountability for Iran, and if we pull out what does that say about us to our allies? How can we count on them during this troubling time we are having with North Korea? Trump, the Art of The Deal. Call your representative and let them know the U.S. should enforce this agreement.

3. Judicial nominations. This is borrowed from D.H. Stacking the courts with right wing justices is one of the goals of the Far Right Extremists, and Trump is making every effort to do so. Both Senators Franken and Klobuchar are on the Senator Judiciary committee. Please contact our Senators to Oppose the following Judicial Nominations.
Stephen Schwartz, who has defended North Carolina's racist voter-ID law, argued that BP was not liable for the Deepwater Horizon spill, and represents Louisiana as it tries to defend its anti-abortion laws(3)
Allison Eid, who is in favor of illegally gerrymandered Congressional districts, has argued for police to have limitless power to search without a warrant, and for public dollars to finance religious public schools(4)
Joan Larsen, who believes in extensive presidential powers and would be unlikely to check Trump when he acts above the law, and who, as a Michigan judge, refused to allow visitation rights to same-sex parents.

4. If you have had those south of us on your mind and hearts due to the catastrophic hurricanes and earthquakes and would like to give, here are a couple options.
