Wednesday 9/20 Call to Action

Wednesday
1. DACA and The Dream Activists
In the melee that is ACA repeal, let’s not forget about the Dreamers. Continue to call your representative and encourage them to defend Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients by passing either the Dream Act (S 1615) or the American Hope Act (HR 3591). The House Democrats, led by Congressional Hispanic Caucus have found a loophole called a discharge petition that can help bring a DACA bill to the floor even if Speaker Ryan refuses for cooperate.
Give your representative a call and tell them to support voting for a resolution to this problem ASAP.
Here is a calling script to guide your call.https://5calls.org/issue/rec1JDCdyFCYYYFu9
2. Reinsurance Nightmare
During the last legislative session, Minnesota lawmakers worked to stabilize the individual insurance market. $300 million was approved to ease skyrocketing insurance premiums for 2017. An additional $542 million was set up to create a reinsurance pool that would help lower insurance rates by offsetting the cost of very large insurance claims.
Now it appears that the Trump administration plans to penalize Minnesota for doing this by cutting $369 million from MinnesotaCare funding. This cut in funding will hurt the poor and vulnerable members of our community the most.
The GOP’s argument against the ACA is that states should have more control over healthcare. This recent even is a predictor of what’s to come if our members of Congress allow this to happen. Call your representative today and ask them their thoughts on this cut to MinnesotaCare funding. Remind them to vote against the Graham-Cassidy Act.

3. Al Franken Attack Ad
Did anyone else see the attack ad against Senator Al Franken come on last night during the Rachel Maddow Show? What the heck? A conservative group whose goal is to get Trump’s judicial nominees confirmed, has created a whack-a-doodle ad campaign aimed at punishing Senator Franken for refusing to return his blue slip for Minnesota Supreme Court Justice David Stras. Read more about it here:http://thehill.com/…/350448-group-launches-ad-attacking-fra…
Now give Senator Franken a call and let him know that you support his efforts to protect our judicial system.

It’s also still not too late to rate the appalling job our Republican reps have been doing. Add your name to this petition: https://www.change.org/p/chair-mngop-com-mn-republican-part…
