Tuesday 9/12 Call to Action

Tuesday
1. Health Care: Graham-Cassidy this time.
I don’t know about you but I am BEYOND sick and tired of having to fight against terrible healthcare bills. Thanks to Republican senators Lindsey Graham, Bill Cassidy and Dean Heller we are at it again.
This new crappy healthcare attempt would end Medicaid and tax credits for people who fall just slightly above the poverty line. It makes big cuts to Medicaid and weakens protections for people with preexisting conditions. It would also place caps on Medicaid to limit spending for poor kids, seniors, and people with disabilities. The worst part is that it would redistribute federal money from mostly urban blue states (the ones that chose to expand Medicaid) to rural red states that did not expand Medicaid.
Here’s another overview of the bill and a calling script from 5 Calls:https://5calls.org/issue/recT4p3RFsud6rxuf
Call Senators Franken and Klobuchar and tell them vote NO, NO, NO for this new healthcare bill.
While they are busy introducing bad healthcare bills, the Trump administration is sabotaging the ACA. Check this out from Rogan’s List. Then call your representative ASAP.
Looks like funding for ACA outreach isn’t just cut. Grant letters have not gone out to outreach organizations and the current regime says no funding that goes out, if it goes out, will be retroactive to Sept. 1. https://www.vox.com/…/9/8/162685…/trump-obamacare-navigators It may be worthwhile to restart a Call /contact your MoC and Call/contact the WH campaign! Helping the ACA succeed is a vital part of fighting its repeal and replacement with anything Republicans would consider healthcare insurance.
2. Campaign Finance
Gerrymandering, voter suppression, misinformation disseminated on social media, and deregulating campaign finance. Together it makes a toxic soup that robs Americans of fair, democratic elections. House Republicans are currently debating changes to campaign finance rules. While they are not expected to pass in the Senate, they could become troublesome the next time the government budget is debated.
The GOP would like to allow churches to be able to contribute money without losing their tax-exempt status.
Corporations would be able to ask their employees to donate to unlimited trade associations’ political-action groups instead of just one per year.
Federal contractors would not need to disclose their political contributions or expenditures.
We need more campaign finance reform, not less. Call your representative, and let them know.
