Tuesday 12/5 Call to Action

Tuesday
Brr! Hello winter.
1.HR 38 Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act
Remember back in October and November when two mass murders happened? Remember Sandy Hook? I do. Those babies would be 11 or 12 now. The House is expected to vote on a bill that would allow concealed weapons to be worn across state lines. Why is this a bad thing? Each state has its own standards for gun control. A person who has obtained a gun permit from a state with lax gun laws can now carry a concealed weapon to a state with stricter gun laws. It essentially brings all gun safety down to the lowest common denominator.
This article does a good job of explaining it: http://www.chicagotribune.com/…/ct-met-glanton-concealed-ca…
Here’s the bill: https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/house-bill/38
Reps. Emmer, Lewis, and Peterson (come on now Collin!) have co-sponsored this bill. Rep. Lewis ran his campaign on state’s rights. This sure seems to contradict this ideal. Then again, he’s a “deficit hawk” who just voted for a $1.5 trillion debt increase. Up is down now. Black is white.
Gabby Giffords is mad. Check out this commercial she made about Rep. Jason Lewis. https://twitter.com/GiffordsCoura…/status/937712499599773697
The good news is that if it passes the House, this bill will need 60 votes to get out of the Senate. If we have learned anything this past week, it’s that regular Senate rules need not apply if the GOP wants to get somethings passed. Let’s try to stop this terrible bill now.

2. Net Neutrality
The FCC plans to vote on this on December 14th!!
Want an easy explanation of net neutrality to share with your friends? Here you go.` https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AcnOaRmMg4
It appears that the comment section at the FCC was infiltrated with Russian hackers or at the very least, non humans. https://www.bloomberg.com/…/fake-views-444-938-russian-emai…
This is a good reason alone to table the vote on Net Neutrality until clearer heads can prevail. A number of Senators are trying to do just that. http://thehill.com/…/363110-group-of-senators-calls-on-fcc-…
Unfortunately, Ajit Pai is not listening to reason and will go ahead with the vote on December 14th. http://www.siliconbeat.com/…/senators-urge-fcc-to-delay-ne…/
What can we do?
Here is a voicemail for the Chariman of the FCC: 1-202-418-1000. State your name, city, and state and that you oppose the repeal of net neutrality.
Protests are planned outside of Verizon stores this Thursday. Learn more here: https://www.battleforthenet.com/
