Friday 5/12 Call to Action

Friday.
Yesterday was one of those busy days where I didn't get a chance to look at the news until the evening.  When I finally got down to reading the online articles it was like I had been away for a week!  Boy does the news come at us fast these days.  I commend any of you who are able to stay abreast of current events.

1.  Flip Flop
Remember Tuesday's shocking report of FBI Director James Comey's termination?  At that time, the Trump administration stated that the main reasons Comey was fired were his botched handling of the Clinton investigation, and because of a recommendation from the Department of Justice.  I am not sure any of us really believed that to be true.  Turns out our Spiderman senses were correct.  If any of you watched Lester Holt interview Trump yesterday, you learned that Trump actually fired Comey because the Trump/Russia investigations was getting too close for comfort.  “I was going to fire Comey. My decision. I was going to fire Comey. There’s no good time to do it, by the way. I was going to fire regardless of recommendation."  Well, there you have it.

Yes, we still need an independent investigation.  Until that happens, we need to be a thorn in the sides of our elected officials.
Here's the Indivisible Guide's worksheet again to help you contact your senators and representative with confidence.

2.  AHCA, We Have Not Forgotten You
Check out this great article form Andy Slavitt. (Aren't you glad he's one of us?) about the AHCA bill.  It provides some great talking points for you to use when speaking to your representative.  I especially like the part that reminds the reader that the reason the ACA is unaffordable for some people is because the GOP voted to strip funding that would have helped to keep insurance premiums down.  Check it out here:  http://m.startribune.com/minnesota-health-care-and-values-take-a-blow-in-gop-bill/422052663/?utm_content=buffer046d0&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Here is Rep. Rick Nolan speaking for a single payer insurance system.

3.  Voter Suppression
Heads up everyone.  Trump just signed an executive order to create a commission, headed by VP Mike Pence, to investigate voter fraud.  This is how voter suppression will happen.  Notice that the study will be finished by 2018, just in time for the next major election cycle.
