Wednesday 5/17 Call to Action

Wednesday
Last night I took the evening off from the news circuit to spend some time catching up with a group of like minded activists. As difficult as these past few months have been, the silver lining is definitely the smart, creative, and caring people I have had the chance to meet. There is so much talent and potential in this movement! It really is quite remarkable. Remember, your version of resistance does not need to look like anyone else's. There are many ways to contribute, besides making phone calls, protesting, and/or going on office visits. Find a way to make your passions or skills useful. Sometimes just being a friend can help bolster others that are feeling run down. We all have something to offer.
1. Drip. Drip. Drip. It's getting swampy in here.
 It pays to be a meticulous note taker. Former FBI director James Comey had a habit of creating memos of phone conversations and meetings with Trump. According to the NYT, in a private meeting last February, Trump asked Comey to drop the investigation on former NSA Michael Flynn. The memo is believed to have been circulated within the FBI at the time of the meeting. This memo could be used to charge Trump with obstruction of justice. Read more about it here:

The WSJ reports that a federal criminal investigation subpoena has been sent out regarding Paul Manafort. About a 3.5 million dollar loan was taken out by Manafort right after resigning. The source of the loan has connections to Ukraine and to a Trump business associate.

The reaction to these events from the Senate and House GOP has been lackluster at best. I am not sure how much needs to happen before they feel compelled to act. Here's where we get involved. We need to hold their feet to the fire. If you have a GOP representative, please call them daily and inquire when they will be taking action on this. Just like yesterday, we need to remind our senators that all normal activity in the Senate needs to stop until these concerns are addressed.
Check out this article from Vox. Besides impeachment, Congress should be protecting America by checking Trump's actions. They should be insisting that Trump:
* release his tax returns
*properly divest from his myriad business ventures
*hire qualified, ethical people to support good decision making
They have the power to do that. We need to push them to get to work.

2. Governor Dayton: Minnesota Hero
If you are like me, you find it difficult to keep track of both state and U.S. government affairs. While I was busy watching Trump leak classified information, our great Minnesota Governor Dayton has been deftly vetoing the terrible bills being passed by the GOP legislature. I am sure that Dayton would prefer not to have to do this, but he has the best interest of the people of Minnesota in mind. Take a moment today to call Gov. Dayton and thank him for protecting us from the terrible content in these bills. Let him know that we support him. Read more about it here:https://watchyourrepsmn.tumblr.com/
