Thursday 5/18 Cal to Action

Thursday
So much happened in the news last night! I feel like Lucy at the chocolate factory https://youtu.be/8NPzLBSBzPI
Here's a recap.
1. For those of you keeping score, please chalk up another win for the resistance. Because of the efforts of good people like you, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee investigations of Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election! Reports say that pressure on Rosenstein expedited his selection of a special counsel investigator (you were that pressure, FYI). Mueller is respected by both sides of the aisle. We can breathe a small sigh of relief that he is on the job. Read more here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/302c1774-3b49-11e7-8854-21…
2. Is This Microphone On?
Last June, after a visit from the Ukrainian prime minister, the GOP had a private meeting on Capitol Hill. During the meeting, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy made a statement that he believed that Trump was being paid by Putin. (!!!) House Speaker Paul Ryan then told the group that they must keep this information a secret. When the news of this story came out, Ryan denied that it ever happened. There is just one problem- the conversation was taped. Whoops.

3. But Wait, There's More...
The NYT broke with a story yesterday that former NSA Michael Flynn had told the Trump transition team that he was under federal investigation weeks before the inauguration. And yet, the Trump team hired him anyways. Why? VP Mike Pence was in charge of the transition but he went on the news circuit saying this:

4. Today the FCC will decide whether to end Net Neutrality. NN basically means that you have equal access to everything on the internet. Without NN, big corporations could pay money to have better access to consumers. This is a big darn deal. Check out this tweet from Sen. Al Franken.https://twitter.com/SenFranken/status/864912911373873154 Call and thank Sen. Franken for standing up for NN. Contact the FCC https://www.fcc.gov/about/contact or tweet them @FCC.
5. Time to Get Back to Health Care
It is so easy to lose sight of the big issues at hand. Today is a good day to refocus on health care.
Here is a Q & A with Andy Slavitt. In all honesty, I haven't watched it yet but I have faith that Slavitt has great information to share. https://www.facebook.com/ASlavitt/videos/1422124211143652/?autoplay_reason=all_page_organic_allowed&video_container_type=4&video_creator_product_type=0&app_id=173847642670370&live_video_guests=0
You may have noticed that the GOP is trying to spread "alternative facts" about the AHCA. Here are some talking points to help you with your rebuttals. http://www.democraticwhip.gov/content/trumpcare-fact-check-0

We are lucky to have two fantastic senators that work hard for the benefit of Minnesotans. You can call today and thank them. Encourage them to be a thorn in the side of the AHCA.
