Tuesday 5/2 Call to Action

Tuesday Call to Action
1. Health Care
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the AHCA is still a topic needing attention. The House is bound and determined to get this crummy bill passed. It is evident they don't care what the bill contains. Their new goal is to punt it over to the Senate. That way, the House can claim they "repealed" Obamacare and then campaign with that when they run for reelection in 2018.
“'I would hope it gets changed over there,' Rep. Peter T. King (R-N.Y.) told Bloomberg News, echoing other center-right members who explicitly said they were willing to pass the new revision in hopes that the Senate would strip out the harsher provisions."
Do your jobs Representatives!! Hoping the Senate will fix your mess is NOT doing your job.
Or listen to Governor Mark Dayton. The ACA has helped people in rural Minnesota get health care.https://www.facebook.com/GovMarkDayton/photos/a.188546714508433.50837.186151651414606/1667242869972136/?type=3&theater
To keep your conversations interesting, here is a list from Andy Slavitt. An "am I impacted by the ACA repeal?" checklist:https://twitter.com/katcapps/status/829450452706037760
2. The Budget
Guess what? The budget is not so bad! In fact, it's pretty good news. The budget that was finished Sunday night will take us into the Fall and is expected to be passed by the Senate soon. It includes a lot of things that should make you smile.
*While there was an increase in spending for border security, none of that money will go towards "The Wall".
*The EPA budget will only be cut by 1% and no employees will be fired.
*There will be an increase in spending on scientific research, specifically medical research.
*Planned Parenthood will continue to be funded.
*Retired coal miners will continue to receive health care benefits.
"How can that be?", you ask. My opinion is that the Republicans are quite divided. It is almost as if they have become two separate entities, the moderates and the ultra-conservatives. They barely have a majority in the Senate and they cannot create a unified message. This is even more reason to continue to push for unity in the Democratic party. We are powerful when we work together.

Feel free to call and thank our senators for their hard work.
3. Local Stuff
I am painfully behind when it comes to local legislation. Sadly, I missed the Education Omnibus Bill yesterday :( Lucky for us, there are great groups in Minnesota that have it under control. I urge you to check them out and do what they say.

*There are also many local DFL groups that are working on local legislation. Do a google search for your district.
There is an environmental omnibus bill happening today. From Watch Your Reps MN:
