Monday 5/8 Call to Action

Welcome back to the work week people!  Our U.S. representatives are enjoying an eleven day break from the House.  Keep an eye out for them and fill us in if you know where they will be.

1.  Let's go local!
We haven't focused on Minnesota's local government for a while.  The House and Senate are just finishing up.  Take a look at Watch Your Reps MN and see what makes your heart go aflutter.  http://mailchi.mp/fa0770abd9dd/mn-action-alert-for-week-of-may-8th?e=f0e75bd769
Contact Governor Dayton and give him your support.  His job has been extra stressful this year.

2.  Scientists are the Good Guys
One of the most absurd and tragic aspects of this time of Trump is the villainization of science and knowledge  (I am old enough to remember when learning facts was cool.)  In another step towards a culture of anti-intellectual and pro-$$, the EPA (Scott Pruitt) has decided to replace half of the members of the EPA's Board of Scientific Counselors.  The Board, which is made up of mostly academics with an array of research backgrounds,  is tasked with maintaining the rigorous, scientific standards of the EPA.  Pruitt is considering replacing these scientists with representatives from the industries that create the pollution that necessitated the EPA in the first place.  Read more about it here:  https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/energy-environment/wp/2017/05/07/epa-dismisses-half-of-its-scientific-advisers-on-key-board-citing-clean-break-with-obama-administration/?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_epa-advisers1140pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory&utm_term=.2263147399f1

America used to be the innovator of science.  Now our scientists have received an invitation from the new French President Marcon (Viva La France!) to seek refuge in his country.  What a surreal time this is.

I am not sure what can be done about the dismantling of America's scientific backbone.  I do know that we can call our senators and make a stink.  We can call/email the EPA (Scott Pruitt) and voice our disdain.  We can write letters to our papers and let everyone know this has not gone unnoticed.
