August 14 Call to Action

1. I don't always read a lot of news on the weekends, but it was hard to miss the situation in Charlottesville.  Indivisible guide has some information on what we can ask our Members of Congress.  There's also a Resist White Supremacy event at McCollum's office tomorrow (link in the Out and About section).  https://www.indivisibleguide.com/resource/members-congress-enough-respond-charlottesville-terrorist-attack/

2. One of the biggest ways the administration will be able to have a long-term effect on American Democracy is through the appointment of far right judges.  One of those is Judge David Stras.  Senators have traditionally been able to block judicial nominees to their own state, through the "blue slip" process.  "Stras fits the mold of an ultra-right-wing conservative who will be a good friend to big corporations, the wealthy and the powerful, at the expense of everyday Americans."  Let's call our senators and ask them to use the blue slip process to oppose Stras.  http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-justice-david-stras-trump-s-pick-for-eighth-circuit-ejnoys-broad-swath-of-support/421642283/

3. Let's call our House members to support the Colorectal Cancer Screening Act of 2017.   The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association (ASCA) describes the bill this way: "Under current law, Medicare waives coinsurance and deductibles for colonoscopies. When a polyp is discovered and removed, the procedure is reclassified as therapeutic for Medicare billing purposes and patients are required to pay the coinsurance. This bill would eliminate unexpected costs for Medicare beneficiaries when a polyp is discovered and removed, ensuring that unexpected copays do not deter a patient from having the screening performed.  If your representative isn't Lewis, your representative is a co-sponsor.  If you're representative isn't Lewis, you know what to do.
