Wednesday 8/9 Call to Action

Wednesday
1. Since it is August recess for our representatives and senators, today we will focus on the actions we can take to get them to take notice. We have an opportunity to make a real impact in the next few weeks.
Ask your congressperson for a town hall. This will be easier for some districts than others. If you are lucky enough to live in a district where town hall meetings already take place, you can focus your time on asking Senator Franken for a town hall meeting. Some congressmen are using the fact that Franken has not had an official town hall as an excuse to not hold their own. Besides, a town hall with Senator Franken would be fantastic!
Rise Stronger has prepared a document that gives good questions to ask during a town hall meeting. Check it out here:https://risestronger.org/newsroom/peoplesaugustrecessguide.
Do you need some talking points for current topics of concern? These would be helpful for phone calls to your representative. Check out this resource here:

Are you stuck at home? Does you representative refuse to have any public events? Are you bursting with great ideas? Try writing a letter to your local paper. Here is a resource to make sure your pen is indeed mightier than the sword. https://www.indivisibleguide.com/…/writing-opeds-make-diff…/
2. Trump International Hotel
Check out this fascinating piece from the Washington Post about the goings on at the Trump International Hotel. Here’s a quote from the article: “This is nothing Washington has ever seen. For the first time in presidential history, a profit-making venture touts the name of a U.S. president in its gold signage. And every cup of coffee served, every fundraiser scheduled, every filet mignon ordered feeds the revenue of the Trump family’s private business.”
The Trumps lease this building from the General Services Administration. It seems odd that this set up is acceptable. If you have the time, it might be nice to call and ask the GSA about that.

You can ask your representative their thoughts on this as well.
3. Following up on yesterday’s call to action on Sinclair Broadcasting, here is a petition you can sign.

4. Finally, something very important. Help Senator Franken pick what he will eat at the MN State Fair.  https://www.alfranken.com/landing/e170808/?source=m
