1. Sinclair Broadcasting

Sinclair Media Group is a very conservative media group that until recently was fairly small potatoes in the local news television market. That will change with their acquisition of Tribune Media. With this merger, Sinclair will be able to reach up to 72% of American households. Up until now, congressional regulations have capped a broadcast group’s audience at 39%. Ajit Pai, the new Federal Communications Commission chairman has used a loophole in this rule to allow Sinclair to exceed that limit. (Remember Ajit Pai is also the person who wants to get rid of Net Neutrality.) Sinclair media has a history of dictating content and providing scripts to the local news stations owned by its company. It also requires that theses companies run biased, prerecorded segments from Boris Epshteyn (a former Trump White House aide) and Mark Hyman.

This is very concerning. Whoever controls our access to information will control the country. We cannot let our ability to obtain unbiased facts (whether from the television or the internet) slip away without a fight.
I think it would be a good idea to call our senators and let them know how concerned we are about this. Sen. Franken has been very outspoken about the loss of net neutrality. Encourage him to speak out about this as well.

Right now, the only news station in Minnesota owned by Sinclair is WUCW (The CW). Tribune Media owns a radio station in Duluth (KDAL 610). We need to be sure to call these local companies and complain if they are unable to provide accurate, unbiased information to their audience.

A draft version of the federal climate change report, (a part of the National Climate Assessment) is out and the results are not good. Countless studies have proven that the climate is changing at an alarming rate. The results are stomach turning.

The scientists need Trump’s permission to release it and there is a growing concern that his administration will suppress the information. Let’s learn more about this and contact our representatives and senators. Tell them that this information is important to you. Call the EPA as well if you are so inclined.
