Tuesday 8/15 Call to Action

Tuesday
The horrible, tragic events that occurred this weekend in Charlottesville have been a shocking wake up call for many of us. (I also think many were aware of this undercurrent of hate in America and have been trying to warn us). This has been an especially difficult pill for me to swallow since the I called Charlottesville home for four years while I attended the University of Virginia. This is not the legacy I want for this town I hold dear. This is not the America I want my kids to grow up in. Now is the time that we work to turn this ship around. Wahoowa.
1. Trump’s American Manufacturing Council
Yesterday, the CEO’s of Merck, Under Armour, and Intel resigned from Trump’s American Manufacturing Council. The AMC was created in January as part of Trump’s push to create jobs in America.https://www.whitehouse.gov/…/president-trump-announces-manu…
The CEO of Merck, Kenneth Frazier, the only African American on the panel, was the first to resign. His resignation was met with some salty tweets from Trump. The other two CEO’s resignations were met with silence from the president. I commend these men for standing up to Trump’s milk toast response to the events in Charlottesville and the undercurrent of hate that exists in the Oval Office.
Here is a list of the other companies that are on the AMC. Read here:http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-manufacturing-council-…
Did you notice that 3M is on that list? The CEO of 3M, Inge Thulin declined to comment. 3M is a Minnesota company and I think you would agree that hateful behavior does not represent our beautiful state. Today, lets focus on Mr. Thulin and 3M and tell them Minnesota wants them to resign from Trump’s ACM.
You can tweet @3M
You can contact the 3M Operator directly by calling 651-733-1110 and selecting option 3.

2. Minnesota is not immune to hate groups
Check out this map from Southern Poverty Law Center that shows hate groups across the state. There are ten in Minnesota! I find that so troubling.https://www.splcenter.org/hate-map
Here is an article from Michael Skolnik, White People, We Know Those Angry, White Men Carrying Tiki-Torches. We Must Not Be Silent!

3. Trump’s Facebook
The Trump campaign spent most of their money on their Facebook presence. Watch this BBC video about how Theresa Hong, Project Alamo and Cambridge Analytica used people’s personal information and preferences to tailor Trump’s posts to get the best response. Also, how involved Facebook executive were in this. This is a disturbing video. It helps explain why the GOP voted to overturn privacy protections for internet users and why Trump’s voter fraud commission want voter data.

I am not sure yet what to do with this information. Let’s put a tack in it and save it for another post. Any ideas?
