Friday 8/11 Call to Action

Friday
1. Voter Suppression
Trump’s game of nuclear chicken with North Korea is understandably taking the top headlines in the papers. Don’t forget, while this is happening, Trump’s voter suppression commission is still busy trying to take away Americans’ votes.
The members of the commission, Kris Kobach, (secretary of state of Kentucky), J Kenneth Blackwell (former sec of state of Ohio) and Hans Von Spakowsky (former Justice Department official) are all known for their past histories of voter obstruction.
Refresh your memory by reading about it here:https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/a525561a-5dd3-11e7-9b7d-14…
The Justice Department has just voted to allow Ohio to purge thousands of infrequent voters (those that haven’t voted in the past six years) off of voting lists, a practice that was found to be unlawful under the Obama administration.

In Indiana, Republican officials have expanded access to early voting in Republican leaning districts while decreasing it in the Democratic leaning districts. (Holy moly!)

Minnesota isn't immune to this. The Minnesota Voters Alliance is suing MN's secretary of state, Steve Simon for refusing to give up Minnesotan's data to Trump's voter commission (thanks for this one, RH!) Read more here.http://blogs.mprnews.org/…/lawsuit-seeks-broad-access-to-m…/

Add these examples to the stories of voter suppression in Texas, North Carolina and Wisconsin. These actions cannot be ignored.
The Anti-Voter Suppression Act (S. 1547/H.R. 3214) has been introduced in both the House and the Senate to nullify Trump’s executive order establishing the commission and to prohibit any of our money from being used to investigate the non-issue of voter fraud.

We must continue to call our representative and senators about this important matter.
