Wednesday 8/22 Call to Action

Wednesday
Campaign Chairs and Lawyers and Congressmen, Oh My!
Yesterday was a BIG news day. Huge. Give it to Trump, he makes the best scandals.
Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chair was convicted of eight crimes yesterday: five for tax fraud; one for failing to report foreign bank accounts; and two for bank fraud. This could mean up to 240 years in prison! A mistrial was declared for another 10 counts. Manafort is due to start another trial in Washington D.C., so his troubles are not over. Suffice to say, he will not be walking free for a long time.
Michael Cohen, Trump’s longtime personal attorney pleaded guilty to eight federal crimes and faces up to 65 years in prison (although he will probably only serve a handful of those years).
The first five counts were for tax evasion.
One count was for making false statements to a financial institution. This count is related to a home equity line of credit that Cohen used to get money to pay off Stormy Daniels, a women with whom Trump had an affair.
Another count was for an unlawful corporate contribution. This happened when Cohen helped American Media Inc. pay off Karen McDougal, another one of Trump’s “special friends”.
The final count was for making an excessive campaign contribution. This was the $130,ooo Cohen paid to Stormy Daniels.
Here’s the kicker, Cohen implicated Trump during his guilty plea, admitting that "in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office" he acted to keep information that would have been harmful to the candidate and the campaign from becoming public during the 2016 election cycle. Wow.
Last night on the Rachel Maddow show, Cohen’s attorney, Lanny Davis said that his client was willing to cooperate fully with Special Counsel Robert Mueller. He also mentioned that Cohen would be happy to tell Mueller what he knows about the “possibility of a conspiracy to collude and corrupt the American democracy system in the 2016 election” and also that Trump had knowledge of and was happy about Russia’s computer hacking. Wow! Wow! Watch the video here: Cohen more than happy to tell Mueller all that he knows: attorney https://www.msnbc.com/…/cohen-more-than-happy-to-tell-muell… via @msnbc

Republican congressman Duncan Hunter and his wife have been indicted by the Department of Justice for allegedly using $250,000 in campaign money for their own personal expenses including lavish vacations and dental work. Hunter was the second Congressman to endorse Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign. The first to endorse was Representative Chris Collins, who was just arrested for insider trading. Trump sure does know the very best people. http://www.latimes.com/…/la-pol-ca-duncan-hunter-indict-201…
These are all great topics to discuss with your members of Congress. Why not call them today? While you are on the phone, remind them that Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh should NOT be considered when the POTUS has been implicated in a felony.
Vote
The best way to change all the terrible things that are happening every day is to vote in November. Besides getting ourselves to the polls, we need to encourage others to do so as well.
As a whole, we need to stop trying to bring Republicans over to our side in November. The best path to victory for the midterms is to reach those in the community who have not voted in the past and get them to participate. We should all be working to do this now. Studies have shown that the best way to accomplish this is by talking to voters in person, on the phone or via texts. Literature is also an effective means of communication. The more personal the interaction the better. To accomplish this, candidates need hoards of volunteers. Your biggest call to action from now until November is to be part of this movement to vote.
Each candidate on the November ballot will have a website where you can sign up to volunteer. That are myriad ways to help so if you haven’t already, sign up and get busy.

Study after study shows that the most effective way to get people to vote is by having conversations with them in the four days before Election Day (Saturday, November 3rd–Tuesday, November 6th). Volunteer here to be part of the last big push. https://thelastweekend.org/?source=MN02
Sister District Action Network did a study on the impact of postcards on voter registration and released the results showing positive results:https://mailchi.mp/…/dark-money-fireside-chat-and-critical-… Let’s read the report and keep on writing postcards!
