Monday 4/3 Call to Action

The weekend has come and gone and it's time to get back to work.
1. The senate is planning on voting on Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court this week. Will there be a filibuster? Will Sen. McConnell elect to use the "nuclear option?" Three democratic senators have decided to vote for him.
 Manchin- West Virginia
Heitkamp-North Dakota
Donnelly-Indiana
If you know anyone who lives in these states, urge them to call their senators as much as possible. Call our senators and thank them again for their willingness to stand against Gorsuch.
2. The next hurdle: Net Neutrality
Last week Congress voted to allow companies to use your private information for profit. Congress is on a roll and now they want to jettison net neutrality (NN) as well. NN allows equal access to the internet, whether you are Joe Schmo or Comcast. Without NN in place, big, rich companies could pay more for faster internet. Websites that do not fit into a certain power's agenda could be given the slowest. See how this could be a problem?
 Learn more about it here:

Or here: https://www.nytimes.com/…/tech-roundup-how-trump-plans-to-d…
For today's CTA, call your representative and tell them that net neutrality is important to you.
For bonus credit you can call Ajit Pai, a former lawyer for Verizon and the newly appointment chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC): 1-888-225-5322
Or you can tweet Mr. Pai: @AjitPaiFCC
3. Local Stuff
The MN Republican budget is bad news for education, the environment, public transportation and those less fortunate. It's a boon for big business. This is not how we do it in Minnesota! Check out this post I borrowed from Indivisible Minnesota Local. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/MinnesotaIndivisibleLocal/)

Call to Action – April 2
Omnibus bills going to Gov Dayton
CALL TO ACTION: Call Governor Dayton
Today we look back over the week's calls, taking advantage of Sunday to catch up for those that may have missed things the first time around, but also shifting our focus squarely onto Governor Dayton. This is a crucial phase of the legislative process: Let’s keep the momentum going! This group alone now has nearly 1000 members.
BACKGROUND
Last week the GOP-controlled House and Senate passed a number of omnibus bills. These contained several nefarious provisions that echo the current GOP agenda at the federal level. In both chambers, DFL reps tried to amend the worst of it but were outvoted.
It’s now, or will soon be, up to Governor Dayton to sign or veto the omnibus bills. If vetoed, they go back to the legislature to revise. It’s up to us to convince Dayton to stay strong in support of our state’s progressive values.

So here is your Weekend Wrap-Up CALL TO ACTION.
Call, write or tweet Governor Dayton’s office to state your positions on the items below. The most effective strategy is to make the arguments your own and personal, rather than too much cutting and pasting.
Dayton’s office: Telephone: 651-201-3400 Toll Free: 800-657-3717; Twitter: @GovMarkDayton; Contact form link: https://mn.gov/governor/contact-us/form/. In this Call to Action, the House File or Senate File numbers are still useful but not that important. Dayton’s office will know what you mean. With this Call we are targeting “language,” and “provisions,” etc. He'll know what you are targeting.

Environment
5. Oppose the defunding, delaying and gutting existingf environmental protections, including buffer laws, the Environmental Quality Board, and citizen control of environmental review boards. (All in HF888.)
