Wednesday 4/5 Call to Action

Wednesday Call to Action

1. Remember back in January when Donald Trump held a press conference announcing that he would put his business into a "blind trust"? Well, it turns out that that was all just a ruse. ProPublica reported that actually, Trump has been able to withdraw money from his companies at any time with out reporting it. Check it out here:
https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-pull-money-his-businesses-whenever-he-wants-without-telling-us

When questioned, WH spokesperson Sean Spicer played dumb and disparaged ProPublica by calling it a "left-wing blog". Thankfully, ProPublica is not the kind of outfit that tolerates false reporting and set the record straight. Read more here:

The bottom line is that Trump has firmly established that we cannot trust anything he reports. The only way we can truly understand the intricacies of his businesses and his conflicts of interest is to see he tax returns. Today, call your representative and let them know that America deserves to see Trump's tax returns.!

2. Local Government Nonsense
State Representative Melissa Hortman made news yesterday when she called out members of the HoR who excused themselves to the "break room" while women were debating on the floor. She stated, "I hate to break up the 100 percent white male card game in the retiring room, but I think this is an important debate." Rep. Hortman is facing backlash from members of the House who take umbrage with Hortman's statement.

Representative Greg Davids has called for Hortman to step down. Davids believes it went against protocol to talk about "what goes on in the House retiring room." His excuse for leaving? He didn't like the speeches.
"First of all, the speeches weren't that good," he said. "They were amazingly repetitive and boring." Read his full statement here:

I don't know about you, but if I left my job to play cards every time a task was boring, I probably wouldn't have my job for very long.

Today let's show Rep. Hortman our support. Call her office and let her know she was right to call out her colleagues for not participating. Call Davids and let him know he needs to get back to work!

3. I want to hold some space for the innocent people of Syria. The atrocities they have suffered at that hands of war criminals are beyond words. I see the faces of the children and I can't help but think, the only difference between us is geography. It is only by pure luck that my kids get to go to school, live in a home, wear clean clothes, eat, and breathe.
Consider donating to a charity that helps the people of Syria.
