Tuesday 4/4 Call to Action

Tuesday Calls to Action: Hello. Let's get started.
A moment for the Environmental Protection Agency.
Why was the EPA created? Because by the late 1960's the mentality that America was a land of unlimited resources was turning it into a nasty cesspool of pollution. Even President Nixon got it. Check out this quote from his State of the Union Address:
"The great question of the seventies is, shall we surrender to our surroundings, or shall we make our peace with nature and begin to make reparations for the damage we have done to our air, to our land, and to our water?
Restoring nature to its natural state is a cause beyond party and beyond factions. It has become a common cause of all the people of this country. It is a cause of particular concern to young Americans, because they more than we will reap the grim consequences of our failure to act on programs which are needed now if we are to prevent disaster later.
Clean air, clean water, open spaces-these should once again be the birthright of every American. If we act now, they can be.
We still think of air as free. But clean air is not free, and neither is clean water. The price tag on pollution control is high. Through our years of past carelessness we incurred a debt to nature, and now that debt is being called."

Alas, in their never ending quest to feed big business, our leaders have forgotten this important message. The cuts proposed by Trump to the EPA are jaw dropping. Read more about it here:

We cannot sit back and let the EPA go quietly into the night. We need to fight back!
1. Who loves our Great Lakes? Can I get a shout out for the Great Lakes?
Our president doesn't care about our Great Lakes :( Trump wants to eliminate $300 million in funding allocated for cleaning up the Great Lakes and the environment surrounding them to pay for the BIG WALL. Some forward thinking representatives from congress have sent a letter requesting that the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative be fully funded. Let's support them in their effort.

Minnesota MoC who have signed the letter:
US Rep Rick Nolan
Keith Ellison
Tim Walz
Collin Peterson
If you call one of these guys your congressman, call and thank them. If not, call and ask them to support the initiative ASAP.
2. Senator Benet has introduced legislation, the Clean Air, Healthy Kids Act, to rescind Trump's Executive Order that reverses several initiatives to combat climate change. Learn more about it here:https://www.bennet.senate.gov/?p=release&id=3856
Here's a great video of Sen. Bennet speaking about this on the floor:
