Friday 7/20 Call to action

Friday
This week’s news has wiped me out! I have been stalling all morning. Want to stall too? Check out this blog D. M. sent me about Queen Elizabeth’s brooches. It’s divine. https://www.scarymommy.com/queen-elizabeth-brooches-trump/… I just can’t even with the news coming from Washington today. I am going to take a difference course for today’s CTA, I think.
1. Hatred Infiltrating Our Communities.
I had the unfortunate opportunity to attend a presentation from a hate group called Minnesota Family Council (MFC), that was hosted by a handful of churches in my area. (Hate groups and churches, let that idea roll around in your brain for a second.) The meeting was designed to address the issue of transgender individuals, specifically in our schools. MFS is independently affiliated with the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family. Those names may sound familiar, they are infamous for supporting aversion therapy as a “cure” for homosexuality and roadblocking same-sex marriage. With lies, fear mongering, and propaganda, this presentation aimed to give the attendees a godly excuse to discriminate against the transgender community, specifically children. I won’t go into details, but you can learn more from the links below. The takeaway I want you to have is that this group (and others like it) is it’s well organized, financially supported, and united in its mission. During the meeting they repeatedly encouraged the audience to 1. vote; 2. run for local government positions like city council and school board. If you pay attention to local news, you will remember that there has been some trouble with issues of discrimination in school boards across the state. MFC is actively realizing their goal of taking over local government. This is scary stuff! The good news is, we can vote too. We can run for local government too. And we should. We can attend these terrible meeting and be a dissenting voice. We can remind the MFC that their path is not righteous.
Here is the open letter sent out by the church groups. https://seasparish.org/…/Open%20Letter%20Concerning%20Trans…
Here are letters sent by similar groups to the Anoka-Hennipin County school board about transgender individuals. https://cplaction.com/…/ADF-Ltr-Anoka-Hennepin-School-Board…

But mostly, VOTE and RUN FOR SOMETHING!

Be realistic. Don’t lose hope. Know your strengths. https://www.nytimes.com/…/trump-supreme-court-kennedy-retir…
3. Create A Video of Support- Why I’m Voting
CD2Action has a great idea! Share your personal stories of why you are voting with others on social media. Think of it as online door knocking! If you would like to participate, all you need to do is create a short video (30-60 seconds) that explains what topics are motivating you to vote in the primary and in November. An easy guide on how to get started is provided for you here: https://cd2action.com/why-im-voting-videos/
Once your video is complete, you can email it to this address cd2action@gmail.com.
4. Let’s Get out The Vote!
I think it’s going to take an overwhelming wave of blue voters to stop this terrible Trump administration in November. All hands on deck! At this point, you should be helping out a campaign at least once a week. Expect to do more as the midterm elections get closer.

Study after study shows that the most effective way to get people to vote is by having conversations with them in the four days before Election Day (Saturday, November 3rd–Tuesday, November 6th). Volunteer here to be part of the last big push. https://thelastweekend.org/?source=MN02
5. Vote Now From Home!
**Secretary of State Steve Simon is reporting a 60% increase in absentee voter applications from the last election cycle! This is awesome!!**
Minnesota is lucky. We have a great voting program that makes it easy for us to get out the vote. You are now able vote early for the Primaries that take place on August 14th. Check out this page from CD2Action that answers some FAQ’s about primary voting. https://cd2action.com/voting-in-the-primaries-101/
Don’t forget, you can vote from home in your jammies. Just sign up here (https://mnvotes.sos.state.mn.us/AB…/ABRegistrationStep1.aspx) for an absentee ballot and one will be mailed to you for free.
If Trump fires Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, please be ready to take to the streets in protest.
