Wednesday 7/25 Call to Action

Wednesday
1. Helsinki- One Week Later
Yesterday, the House Democrats pushed a resolution denouncing Trump’s behavior in Helsinki.  The new resolution, although nonbinding, is their latest attempt to get the House on the record affirming Congress’s commitment to liberal democracies — like those composing the NATO alliance — above hostile autocracies like Putin’s Russia.“This is a very important and pivotal moment for our country,” Pelosi told reporters Monday evening in the Capitol. “We cannot appear to endorse what the president is doing by our silence.”  http://thehill.com/homenews/house/398473-house-dems-press-resolution-denouncing-trump-in-wake-of-helsinki  Let’s tell our representatives that we agree.  None of us can be silent.

During the question and answer period at the meeting between Trump and Putin in Helsinki last week, journalist Jeff Mason asked the following: “President Putin, did you want President Trump to win the election? And did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?”
Here’s Putin’s answer: “Yes, I did. Yes, I did. Because he talked about bringing the U.S.-Russia relationship back to normal.”
Wow, right? That reflects pretty badly on Trump doesn’t it? Here’s the problem. Official transcripts from the White House have changed Mason’s question. They have removed the first half of the question where Mason asked, Putin if he wanted Trump to win the election. So sneaky! It amazes me that this has essentially flown under the Radar. It’s a testament to the barn fire that is our country right now.
Or watch Rachel Maddow’s take on it here: http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow/watch/trump-white-house-cuts-putin-support-for-trump-out-of-transcript-1284716611545 via @msnbc
This seems like a really good thing to make some noise about. Why not tweet, call, or email your members of Congress and see what they think? Don’t forget Resistbot( https://resistbot.io/) is a great way to contact them if you are sick and tired of calling.
2. $$Trump and The Fiscally Conservative GOP$$
From my friends at Rogan’s List: Trump's upcoming self-aggrandizing military parade is estimated to cost taxpayers 12 million dollars (http://fortune.com/2018/07/18/trumps-military-parade-cost-taxpayers-12-million-report/) and his unnecessary repainting of Air Force One to red, white and blue is estimated to cost 3.9 million dollars of our money (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2018/07/18/donald-trump-air-force-one-red-white-and-blue-cost-3-9-billion/794735002/).   Add in the ever-increasing and unexpected cost of Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy (https://www.bna.com/zero-tolerance-immigration-b73014477161/) and we see so much of our taxpayer dollars that could have been spent on so many other much worthier.  Let’s let our MoCs know where we want these dollars to be spent instead.
These expenses would make excellent topics for tweeting our GOP members of Congress. Those fiscal hawks sure have been silent about all this unnecessary spending.

While you are on the phone why not ask about the $1 trillion that the government is borrowing, an 84% increase from last year. According to the CBO, the increase in borrowing is attributed to the fact that the new tax law has decreased tax receipts. This is the largest jump in borrowing during a non-recession time since Ronald Reagan was president and he was trying to beef up the U. S. military.

3. Don’t Forget The Kids!
Tomorrow is the deadline for returning children (over 5 years old-the deadline for under 5 is long past due) that were separated from their families at the border. Many of those children’s parents have already been deported back to their countries of origin and the outlook for reunification is bleak. I know we are all so very tired, but let’s not forget these kids. This forced separation is causing irreparable damage to them. Today, we can work to put their plight back into the minds of our members of Congress. Make some noise. Make some good trouble. You would hope for the same if these were your children.

4. Let’s Get out The Vote!
I think it’s going to take an overwhelming wave of blue voters to stop this terrible Trump administration in November. All hands on deck! At this point, you should be helping out a campaign at least once a week. Expect to do more as the midterm elections get closer.
Check out these calendars for upcoming events near you.
Study after study shows that the most effective way to get people to vote is by having conversations with them in the four days before Election Day (Saturday, November 3rd–Tuesday, November 6th). Volunteer here to be part of the last big push. https://thelastweekend.org/?source=MN02
Indivisible is pushing for a weekend of action this weekend. Learn more about activities in your area here: http://www.indivisible.org/events/

5. Primaries are August 14th
Don’t forget to vote in the primaries on August 14th. Check out this website for more information on who’s running in Minnesota. https://politicalcharge.org/2018/07/23/minnesota-8-14-primary-at-a-glance/

If Trump fires Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, please be ready to take to the streets in protest.
