Monday Call to Action
The shutdown has gone on for over two weeks now. House Democrats on
Friday passed bills to fund government without "The Wall." Trump has
responded by threatening to declare a national emergency, or to let the
shutdown continue for "months of even years."
There's an
interesting development: both senators from Maryland are calling on
Mitch McConnell to allow a vote on the House bill to reopen government,
before the Senate does any other business. We should call Senators
Klobuchar and Smith, and request that they do the same.
In particular, they should vote against the motion to proceed on S.1, and any other bills that don't reopen government.

Also
note that John Bolton is putting conditions on US withdrawal from
Syria. We should be wondering whether an official who isn't elected or
senate-confirmed is making foreign policy decisions.
"Mr. Bolton,
making a visit to Israel, told reporters that American forces would
remain in Syria until the last remnants of the Islamic State were
defeated and Turkey provided guarantees that it would not strike Kurdish
forces allied with the United States. He and other top White House
advisers have led a behind-the-scenes effort to slow Mr. Trump’s order
and reassure allies, including Israel."
