For Native American tribes, this government shutdown is much more than an inconvenience. This shutdown can cripple the basic community functions. Generations ago, the government and tribes negotiated treaties that would guarantee funds for services like healthcare and education in exchange for land.
“On the Bois Forte Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota, tribal officials have instituted a hiring freeze and are planning to meet later this week to discuss budget cuts. Cathy Chavers, the tribe’s chairwoman, said tribal functions were continuing for now, but “it will probably come down to minimal, minimal basic services” if the shutdown lasts another month.”
Trump and the Republican Senate don’t sense the urgency to end this government shutdown because they refuse to see or hear the American people it’s hurting. Shame on them.

Let your MoC know that they should not vote for “PayGo” in the House rules package for the 116th Congress. It disables fiscal policy with the delusion that tax cuts or mandatory spending increases must be offset by tax increases and mandatory spending cuts.
