Tuesday 7/25 Call to Action

‘Tueaday
1. Healthcare Bill, UGH!
In yet another chapter of the bill that would not go away, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell plans to have the Senate vote to proceed sometime this afternoon. If the Senate votes yes, they will then vote either on the AHCA bill passed by the House last May, to repeal the ACA and not replace, or repeal the ACA and replace it with a new bill. Here’s the thing: they will vote today but none of the senators (besides a select few) know on what they will be voting. Ludicrous! Senator John McCain will be back from his brain surgery. I wonder if receiving a diagnosis of brain cancer will have changed his vote.

I am so very thankful for Senators Klobuchar and Franken, and their pledge to fight for Minnesota’s right to healthcare, but it is difficult to watch this unfold from the sidelines. What can we do today to help? Call Klobuchar and Franken and encourage them to do everything in their power to slow down this process. (Remember the “vote-a-rama”?)
You could help encourage citizens from key states to call their senators. Sign up here to be part of Indivisible’s phone bank: https://docs.google.com/…/1S2XvD-vfQAej0xF3QOfloe…/viewform…
Check out this thread from Ben Wikler, Washington director of MoveOn. This will give you a great timeline of what is expected to happen with the healthcare vote. https://twitter.com/benwikler/status/889288933414187008
2. Christopher Wray
Matt Katz from WNYC news published a story about Christopher Wray, the nominee for director of the FBI. Apparently, he was Chris Christie’s tax payer funded lawyer during the time of “Bridgegate”. He was working and billing hours for 11 months before filling out documents that would allow the public to know he was working for Christie. This took place during Christie’s run for president. It seems quite convenient that this was undisclosed during the campaign.
It is reported that Wray was recommended to Trump by Christie. In light of Trump’s recent comments about the FBI director shoud work for the president and not independently, Wray’s willingness to bend the rules is especially concerning.
Not a single question about “Bridgegate” was asked during the Wray hearing. The Judicial Committee voted unanimously in favor of Mr. Wray. Remember, both Sens. Klobuchar and Franken are on this committee. Let’s call them and ask them how they feel about this report.

3. Tomorrow a plan.
There has been rumors on the street that Trump may replace AG Jeff Sessions during the August recess. This will open the door to firing Robert Mueller. If that happens we must be ready to push back with vigor. Tomorrow we will talk about creating a plan to do so. This is especially important considering this report from the Hill: Cruz Being Considered to Replace Sessions. (Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!) http://thehill.com/…/343556-cruz-being-considered-to-replac…
