Wednesday 7/19 Call to Action

Wednesday
BCRA (Mostly? Totally? Probably?) Dead
Thanks to three brave senators (Sens. Collins, Capito, and Murkowski), who were not afraid to put the needs of their constituents before the interests of their party, Majority Leader McConnell’s attempt to repeal the ACA without replacement has failed.
In what has sadly become America’s new normal, instead of encouraging Congress to dust itself off and work across the aisle for a better plan, Trump said this: “Let Obamacare fail. It will be a lot easier. We’re not going to own it. I’m not going to own it. I can tell you the Republicans are not going to own it. We’ll let Obamacare fail, and then the Democrats are going to come to us”.
Allowing the ACA to fail is a horrible idea! I know our own Senators, Klobuchar and Franken would not allow that to happen without a fight. Our GOP representatives, on the other hand, need a little encouraging. What a legacy it would be for them to help craft a bipartisan health-care bill that helps Americans! We just need to convince them.
Here is a calling script from 5 Calls. Feel free to substitute your representative’s name.

Trump/Putin
Reports have found that Trump had a second hour-long meeting with Putin at the G-20 Summit in Germany a week and a half ago. This second meeting was attended by Trump, Putin and Putin’s translator. Trump, of course, has denied this, but since it took place at the G-20 dinner with countless witnesses, his denial is not plausible. There is no transcript of what Putin and Trump talked about during this second meeting. One can only wonder what they discussed. Given that Trump has a history of sharing classified information with Russia, one has to worry about what kind of secrets were shared during this second meeting.

Why did Trump meet with Putin for a second time? This article by Aaron Blake provides three possibilities
1. There is something nefarious going on
2. Trump is oblivious to how this might be perceived
3. Trump is simply addicted to causing controversy and/or sees it as a GOP base play

Pair this sneaky meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s dismantling of the State Department. Yesterday, it was announced that Tillerson was shutting down the Office of the Coordinator for Cyber Issues. Why would Tillerson shut down this office when America is facing constant cyber attack from Russia? Tillerson is also shutting down the Office of Global Criminal Justice, the department that deals with war crimes. Several state department positions have been left unfilled and they are working with a skeleton crew.
It is alarming to me that America’s main diplomatic department is being neutered. Why is this occurring? That is a great questions to ask our senators and representative. This crazy Russia game is not acceptable. Watch this video with Wendy Sherman, former under secretary of State for political affairs. Yowza. Scary stuff.

We have witnessed the power that our collective voices have on this unruly administration. I think it’s time for us to put our full efforts against Russia.

From the Rogan's List:  We all know that the Trump administration is hot on de-regulating everything, including what we call environmental protections.  To help us understand what is happening and how to act on them, a group of former civil servants have created A Practical Guide for Resisting the Trump De-Regulation Agenda.  Let’s learn more about it and download it here:  http://www.saveepaalums.info/
