Wednesday 4/18 Call to Action

Wednesday
1. Pompeo Visits North Korea
CIA Director Mike Pompeo, nominee for Secretary of State, had a secret meeting with North Korea at the end of March. He was there to meet with Kim Jogn Un, and make plans for a possible summit between the North Korean leader and Trump. I may be old fashioned, but shouldn’t Secretaries of State actually get voted in by the Senate before conducting state business? It has been reported that Trump’s daughter, Ivanka may have a hand in negotiations with North Korea as well. What is going on?
Since Trump was inaugurated, the State Department has slowly been weakened and dismantled. Many seasoned diplomats have either been fired or have retired. All that’s left is a skeleton crew. Read more about that here. http://foreignpolicy.com/…/how-the-trump-administration-br…/
With the constant barrage of insanity in Washington lately, it is easy to become numb. What’s happening at the State Department is not normal or acceptable. Today would be a good day to call our members of Congress and remind them so.
While you are on the phone with Senator Amy Klobuchar, make sure to remind her to vote NO on the appointment of Pompeo to Secretary of State. Read this article to remind you why he’s a bad choice. https://www.vox.com/…/tim-kaine-mike-pompeo-secretary-of-st…

2. Firearm Research
US Congress has allowed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to conduct research into gun violence. Today, let’s contact Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, to get that research stared ASAP. He also needs to provide the necessary funding since none was allocated in the Omnibus bill.

You can call your US member of Congress as well.
Contact Secretary Alex Azar, US Department of Health & Human Services,:

200 Independence Ave SW, Washington, DC 20201.
The Firearm Data Collection for Research bill is at the Minnesota Capitol this week. (SF2726/HF2891) This bill would allow the Department of Health to collect information on firearm ownership. For some crazy reason, state law currently prohibits the MN Department of Health from collecting data. Studies have shown that inadequate data is one of the biggest barriers against understanding and preventing gun violence. This bill is a great idea and we should encourage our members to support it. Call them today.
If you can, join Moms Demand Action’s Lobby Day and Rally today, April 18th. https://protectmn.org/…/moms-demand-action-lobby-day-and-r…/

3. PROTECT MUELLER AND THE RUSSIA INVESTIGATION
Legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller has gained bipartisan support. Unfortunately, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has stated that he will not let the legislation come to the Senate floor for discussion or a vote. Today is the day you need to contact your senators and tell them to change McConnell’s mind.

If Trump fires Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, please be ready to take to the streets in protest.
