Wednesday 4/4 Call to Action

Wednesday
1. Rebecca Dallet’s Victory in Wisconsin
Let’s start the day off with some happy news. Yesterday, Rebecca Dallet was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court by a 10 point margin. In a state where conservatives have had a strangle-hold on the government, this is a huge accomplishment. http://host.madison.com/…/article_1e5524f8-e10f-50f5-bb69-b…
Could this be another sign of big changes coming in November? Only if we commit ourselves to getting out the vote. Wisconsin’s governor, Scott Walker is feeling the heat. He was active on the Twitter machine, warning of a “Blue Wave”. Check it out here: http://thehill.com/…/381548-walker-warns-of-blue-wave-in-wi…
If you haven’t already, commit yourself today to volunteering for a worthy campaign near you. If you are lucky enough to be well represented in a safe district, volunteer in a needy one. November is chock full of important elections and there is plenty of work to do. Here is a list of the Minnesota candidates for November. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_elections,_2018

2. Robert Mueller’s Investigation
Last night on the Rachel Maddow Show, there was some encouraging news about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. We have all been on pins and needles worrying about whether Trump would fire Mueller, creating a constitutional crisis. It seems that Mueller has prepared for that scenario.
Charges brought against Paul Manafort weren’t just brought by Mueller’s office alone. Charges were also signed off on by the National Security Division and the Tax Division on the justice department. This means that if the Trump administration were to prevent Mueller from doing his job, the investigation would persist.

3. The Next Generation Has The Power to Change
Tufts University has ranked Minnesota as one of the top states where young voters can make a difference in November’s elections. If we want to elicit change, we need to make sure that their voices are heard. We need to keep them motivated to show up to the polls and VOTE! One way you can do this it so show up for MneverAgain’s Town Hall Project. Minnesota’s student leaders have sent out a call to action for Minnesota’s elected officials. They have created their own town hall during Congress’ spring break. Let’s support them by writing legislators and encouraging them to attend. The town hall will be on April 7th. If you have kids in your life who want to make a change, encourage them to attend the event. Let’s commit to attending as well to show our support. This is really exciting!

4. Become an Election Judge
Are you looking for a way to contribute to your community? Why not become an election judge? You will help elections run safely, and smoothly while learning how the government ticks. It’s a paid gig, so it’s a great way to help democracy work while making some $$. Read more about it here. http://www.sos.state.mn.us/…/get-…/become-an-election-judge/
5. The United States Congress is on spring break this week so it’s a perfect time to focus on what’s happening at Minnesota’s Capitol.

Tax Day Rally at the Capitol,
On Sunday, April 15th join fellow Minnesotans in protesting tax laws that benefit the richest Americans at the expense of the poor and working classes. Let’s get together and tell our government that we want them make laws the benefit the majority, not just their pocketbooks and election campaigns.
