Friday 10/6 Call to Action

Friday
I don’t know about you but I am tired. The need for action seems relentless and our politicians’ lack of accountability is so frustrating. But we must persist. Like Dora the fish said, “Just keep swimming.”
1. Gun Violence Updates
A. H.Res.367 - Establishing the Select Committee on Gun Violence Prevention.
https://www.congress.gov/…/115th-congress/h…/367/cosponsors…
This bipartisan committee was created created to study gun violence and to brainstorm common sense gun legislation. According to a press release from Representative Nancy Pelosi, the House Republicans voted 231 to 189 to block this committee. This happened two days after one of the deadliest gun massacres in American history. I cannot find a list of how our MN representatives voted. Why not call to day and ask them yourself. Shameful.

B. Continue to ask your members of Congress to support Sen. Feinstein’s legislation to close loopholes that allow rifles to be converted from semi-automatic into rapid fire weapons. http://www.sacbee.com/…/politics-government/capitol-alert/a…
C. Are you a country music fan? The NRA is attempting to rejuvenate their member base by appealing to young country music lovers.https://www.nracountry.com/ Read about it here: https://www.theguardian.com/…/nra-country-gun-lobby-music-n…
The pressure for country music performers to support the NRA is harsh and persistent. Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash is brave enough and stand us against the NRA. Good for her.

Caleb Keeter witnessed the violence in Las Vegas first hand. It changed his opinion on the 2nd Amendment. Read more here.https://www.washingtonpost.com/…/i-cannot-express-how-wro…/…
If you have a favorite country music performer, contact them and urge them to support gun regulation.
2. Veterans Upward Bound Program
Who loves our veterans? We all do, but Republicans sure like to use that as a backbone of their party. The problem is, it’s all words and no action. The GOP’s proposed cuts to Medicaid and Medicare would have devastating consequences for our veterans. Educational programs like Veterans Upward Bound, part of the TRIO program helps veterans and those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds get the education they need to be successful members of the workforce. Unfortunately, the GOP would prefer not to fund this program. I guess with the high cost of private flights, cutting taxes for the wealthy, and building a big wall, there isn’t enough money to help out those who fought for our country. Give your member of Congress a call and urge them to fund these programs.
Have a great weekend and be good to yourself.
