Thursday, 10/12 Call to Action

1. Trumpcare
As of this morning, if Trump follows through with his executive order the ACA will now be called Trumpcare. This plan would raise the costs for sick individuals, it would have fewer benefits, subsidiaries for lower income consumers would be gone, and those with a preexisting condition could be refused coverage. Trump plans on signing his EO this morning at 11:15 ET.

Andy Slavitt will be tweeting about all the details as he gets them.

2. Judicial war
First McConnell steals a seat on the SCOTUS, now McConnell says he is killing the blue slips. We have to call our senators about this, and ask any friends or family that live in red states to call their senators. This is unacceptable.

3. Puerto Rico/California
There is so much devastation happening in our country. California is on fire. Puerto Rico desperately needs help. One third of the island has not had clean drinking water for weeks and have been drinking from streams. This contaminated water has led to several deaths from leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that is treatable, if people can get to help. The death toll will continue to rise and these deaths will not be from the hurricane, but from the response. Congress has been slow to react to this disaster, and there needs to be leadership that figures out how to get the supplies out of the ports to the areas they are needed in, and getting the sick to the USNS Comfort where they can be treated.

If you are looking for ways to help those in need in California.

4. Russia sanctions
Remember when it felt good that we had gotten congress to implement sanctions against Russia?
The bill had been intended to force President Trump into punishing Russia for its tampering in the 2016 presidential election, with legislators fearing that the president would be overly lenient.” Trump has yet to do anything about it.
