Tuesday 10/10 Call to Action

Tuesday- Howdy folks!
Our dear senators are on recess this week. Have some free time? Pop on over to one or both offices and let them know what you’re thinking.
Sen. Franken: 60 Plato Blvd Suite #220, St Paul, MN 55107
Sen. Klobuchar: 1200 S Washington Ave #250, Minneapolis, MN 55415
There are so, so many things that garner attention. Pick the topics that are most important to you and focus on those. Here are some options:
1. Tax “Reform”
If you were concerned about healthcare reform, you should be concerned about the GOP’s tax plan. There are some hefty cuts to Medicare and Medicaid in there.
Indivisible Guide has collected all you need to know. Read up and make some noise. https://www.trumptaxscam.org/
Or watch the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities talk about the Trump tax scam here:https://www.facebook.com/indivisibleguide/videos/327963874334155/
2. Leaving Women Optionless
Last week, the House passed a ban on abortions after 20 weeks. Now, thanks to Sen. Lindsey Graham, the Senate will attempt to do the same thing. Most abortions performed after 20 weeks are due to severe abnormalities in the fetus or health risks to the mother. What is already a heart wrenching time for the parents has been made worse by the callous actions of members of Congress.
Tell your senators to oppose the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act. Use this 5 Calls script as your guide:https://5calls.org/issue/recJXClLYB2C9N8cg
In a double whammy against women, (triple whammy if you consider CHIP) the Trump administration will now allow employers to opt out of providing birth control to women based on “moral” beliefs.
If this new rule affects you, the ACLU wants to hear from you.https://action.aclu.org/secure/birth-control-rule
3. Disaster Relief
Four hurricanes, and a huge wildfire all necessitate funds so that Americans can rebuild. Puerto Rico has so far been the Trump administration’s red-headed step child for disaster relief. At the end of this week, the House will consider a disaster relief bill. Lets call our representatives and encourage them to make funds available so that the victims of Puerto Rico can rebuild their lives, or at least have clean drinking water.
4. Minnesota Pipeline
(From the Rogan’s list)
Enbridge is seeking approval from the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission for the Line 3 Pipeline Replacement Project https://mn.gov/puc/line3/ The pipeline is set to expand through lakes, rivers, and wetlands, and affect the sovereignty of Objibwe tribes http://strib.mn/2wFSGi8 The Minnesota Commerce Department argues that there is no actual need for this pipeline expansion, stating "In light of the serious risks and effects on the natural and socioeconomic environments of the existing Line 3 and the limited benefit that the existing Line 3 provides to Minnesota refineries, it is reasonable to conclude that Minnesota would be better off if Enbridge proposed to cease operations of the existing Line 3, without any new pipeline being built." http://bit.ly/2y3Virs http://bit.ly/2yClXL4 The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission is seeking public comment through November 22nd. Let's make sure we leave a comment, asking that they reject the request from Enbridge, and to not grant a permit for the Replacement Project https://mn.gov/puc/line3/participate/#3
